Microsoft has announced that it has successfully tested a hydrogen fuel cell system to replace its data centre backup power systems. The fuel cell system has a capacity of 3MW and is designed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by replacing the existing diesel backup generators.

EE has announced that it has pushed its 5G mobile broadband speeds to 2.2Gbps during testing. The mobile operator has claimed it is the “first European network” to reach these speeds by combining seven different spectrum carriers via its existing 3.4GHz and new 3.6GHz channels.

UK government announces trial to deliver broadband through water pipes

The UK government has announced a technology trial to deliver fast broadband through water pipes. Water pipes between Barnsley and Penistone in South Yorkshire will be used as part of the trial, which reportedly has the potential to connect up to 8,500 premises.
