IT budgets forecast to rise in 2023

A new report has indicated that companies are poised to increase their spending on IT next year, despite fears of a recession. The 2023 State of IT report, from Spiceworks Ziff Davis (SWZD), surveyed nearly 1,000 IT buyers and found that, despite 83 per cent worrying that a recession could hit their business next year, slightly more than half were planning to increase their IT spending.

Akamai flags 13 Million malicious domains per month

Content delivery network Akamai found that almost 79 million newly observed domains (NODs) in the first half of the year were malicious. The company says this equals approximately 13 million malicious domains per month, which represents 20.1 per cent of all the NODs that were successfully resolved.

Elon Musk has announced that his company’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) based Starlink satellites will soon be able to connect with 4G and 5G-based mobile phones, a development which the company says will mean there will be “No more cell phone dead zones“.

Gigabit broadband technology now an option for 70 per cent of the UK

Independent broadband news and information site Think Broadband has revealed that 70 per cent of the UK now has the option to access a gigabit broadband technology. The site recorded that at the end of 2021 the UK gigabit coverage level was 67.6 per cent. Full fibre roll-outs across the UK have boosted this number up to 70.2 per cent, based on a UK premises database count of 31.4 million.

Enterprise servers to benefit from SmartNICs after VMware move

Enterprise servers have begun to move into SmartNICs and VMware, with Nvidia and AMD announcing that their data processing units (DPUs) are now supported by VMware’s hypervisor. Nvidia and AMD both announced the news at last month’s VMware Explore conference, with Intel expected to follow later on this year.

Worldwide PC and tablet shipments forecast to decline in 2022 and 2023

The International Data Corporation (IDC) has forecast that global shipments of PCs and tablets will decline during 2022 and 2023 amid challenging market conditions. Despite this, the IDC says that the outlook for shipments remains higher than pre-pandemic levels and that it expects growth to return in 2024.
