Dutch firm pledges investment in UK broadband

A Dutch company has promised to make a major investment in UK broadband infrastructure, with the goal of disrupting the current market.

Angie Communications, which claims to be the biggest telecoms start-up in the world, plans to bring 5G wireless and 10-Gigabit fibre broadband to the UK.

The company revealed plans to roll out three distinct next-generation communications infrastructure across the country by 2016, potentially providing a major boost to business communications systems.

Angie's investment in the broadband infrastructure of the UK would come as part of the company's international strategy of building and operating a unique multi-nation network.

"By leapfrogging the incumbent providers' fragmented and outdated services, Angie brings true convergence and seamless integration of 4.5G mobile, 5G wireless and 10-gigabit video, data, voice and "smart" (Internet of Things) services," the company said in a statement.

"Think of a world where you can access the internet from anywhere anytime from any device at perfect quality and you will understand why "Going Beyond Imagination" is more than just Angie's tagline."

Angie claims to have financial commitments worth in excess of €300 million (£222 million), which the company says represents 10 per cent of the business, making it worth three billion euros in total.

The firm is also said to be in the process of selling another three hundred million euro worth of equity, with the deal expected to close by September 2015.

A Virtual Data Room has been set up by Angie to allow people to familiarise themselves with the company, with the firm uploading documents and links of interest.

Going Beyond Imagination: The Blueprint for Next-Generation Communications, Angie's 170-page strategy document, is also available to read in full.

Angie said: "This document contains a lengthy market and competitive analysis with up-to-date information about UK's next-generation communications infrastructure."

Businesses looking to move services into the cloud should evaluate the performance of their existing network and consider setting up a leased line or MPLS network.
