VoIP services market on track for major growth

VoIP market services are set to skyrocket over the coming years, according to new research.

Market research firm Infonetics Research increased its prediction for the growth of VoIP services to $76 billion by 2015 in its latest VoIP and UC Services and Subscribers report.

The report – which charts vendors and service revenue across the residential and business VoIP and wider communications sector – attributed the predicted rise in growth is being attributed to hosted business VoIP and SIP trunking.

Directing analyst for VoIP and IMS at Infonetics Research, Diane Myers, told Market Watch, “We've increased our short- and long-term forecasts for the voice over IP services market, as adoption in the residential, SOHO, and business segments continues unabated.

“The residential segment continues to make up the majority of VoIP services revenue, but the real growth is in the business segment, particularly SIP trunking services and hosted VoIP and unified communication services,” added Ms Myers.

She also went on to say, that the overall VoIP services market looked as if it was on target to expand by a further 17 per cent this year, following a healthy and successful 2010.

Supporting the findings from Infonetics Research about the growth of VoIP was research from internet telephony solutions provider Teleappliant, which predicted that business VoIP will see strong growth across the globe over the coming months.

Teleappliant discussed the positives for organisations of all sizes of using business VoIP, the most important of which included far greater functionality and stronger performance, alongside lower prices.

Moving over to a business VoIP system can also help to allow an organisation to set aside the money that it was once forced to spend on updating technical equipment. With business VoIP, the only equipment a business needs is a computer with a sound card, speakers, modem, microphone and a high-speed web connection.

Business VoIP also enables firms to obtain a higher degree of flexibility, allowing them to stay one step ahead of their competitors.

In order to ensure that VoIP is implemented through the cloud effectively, it is well worth considering the condition of the business network and thinking about a leased line or MPLS network. By doing so, the reliability and performance of the service will be increased.
