Cloud gaming could be the future, says Microsoft

Cloud gaming could become more popular and widespread than gaming through consoles when bandwidth has developed enough to allow it, according to tech giant Microsoft.

Phil Spencer, Microsoft Games Studio head, told news.com.au: "Cloud is a huge opportunity. But if you look at the internet capabilities today, it's a challenge.

He said that current technologies, which allow millions of people all over the world to watch sports events in HD online at the same time, already throw up problems when it comes to bandwidth. However, he said that a move towards this level of network capability will happen eventually.

Mr Spencer explained that the cloud gaming is completely possible and that the technology will one day be developed enough to store and make available as much information as is needed for interactive gaming. He said, "So I believe, yes, in the long run we'll land in a spot where there's cloud distribution of all content and Microsoft is clearly invested in that."

Although gaming is usually the reserve of household broadband customers, businesses are also moving towards the use of cloud computing for their IT needs. Using remote desktops and high-speed networks helps firms to keep up with the latest functions and technologies available to them.

However, many businesses find themselves in areas of the UK without fast internet connections and opt for leased line connections instead. hSo provides managed networks designed for business. To get an instant cost for a leased line at your location, visit our online leased line price checker.
