West Oxfordshire to achieve 100 per cent superfast broadband coverage

West Oxfordshire is to be among the first regions of the UK to have complete access to superfast broadband.

While superfast broadband coverage across the UK is high, with the Government on track to hit its target of 95 per cent coverage by the end of 2017, there are very few regions that do not still have small 'not spots'. West Oxfordshire will be joining the exclusive list by the end of next year, when the final stage of the superfast broadband roll-out is completed.

Driven by the West Oxfordshire District Council, the £6.4 million project, which is funded by an even split of Government and council money combined with private investment, has been targeting the most rural and hard-to-reach areas so that all businesses and homes in the area can reap the benefits of faster broadband.

District councillor Richard Langridge, who is leading the broadband project at the council, commented: "We have long held the belief that homes and businesses shouldn’t have to sacrifice being at the forefront of the digital and technological age simply for living in a beautiful rural area.

"West Oxfordshire has an incredibly strong business community that deserves to be able to perform alongside the best in the world. This project will ensure no one is left in the slow lane and future-proof businesses' digital capabilities."

The next stage of the West Oxfordshire rollout, which complements the Oxfordshire Better Broadband Programme, is due to start in early 2016 and take around 12 months to complete. At present 90 per cent of premises in the region have access to broadband speeds of at least 24 Mbps, and over the coming year this is expect to hit 100 per cent.

Digital minister Ed Vaizey said: "The transformation of Oxfordshire’s digital landscape is well underway and I’m delighted that another 6,000 local properties will now be able to get superfast speeds as a result of this programme."

Almost all businesses today need reliable, superfast broadband, which is not always available in their area, so getting a dedicated leased line for the premises can be the best solution. hSo provides managed networks designed for business - to get an instant cost for a leased line at your location, visit our online leased line price checker.
