Superfast broadband comes to Loch Ness and Dorset

Two more locations in the UK have just announced the roll-out of superfast broadband as the government's digital strategy gathers pace.

Firstly, residents of one of Scotland's most far-flung communities are to get superfast broadband as new infrastructure is laid for the villages of monster-spotting hot spot Loch Ness. Campaigners have lobbied for years to get better broadband connections in the area and their calls have now been answered.

Around 1,300 homes and businesses in the Dochgarroch, Dores, Drumnadrochit, Foyers, Glenmoriston, Glenurquhart, Cannich, and Fort Augustus areas will get access to the faster broadband speeds, The Scotsman reported. It has been delivered as part of the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband project, a £416 million scheme run by the Highlands and Islands Enterprise in co-operation with the UK and Scottish governments.

Highland Council leader Margaret Davidson said: “I am pleased to see that this roll-out is going ahead very soon in the Loch Ness and Caithness areas.

“High-speed broadband connectivity is essential for businesses and communities to thrive in a modern world. It is a key priority for this administration to ensure that no communities are left behind in the Highlands, even in the hardest to reach areas.”

Even larger roll-outs are in the offing, too; an additional 24 council areas are to be connected with superfast broadband, which will be to the benefit of 73,000 extra homes and businesses.

Elsewhere in the UK, it has been announced that the Superfast Dorset scheme is now two-thirds complete, with more than 55,000 households and businesses able to access high-speed broadband for the first time. Moreover, by the end of 2017 it is hoped that the initiative will have connected 90,000 premises with superfast broadband that would have otherwise been without.

Almost all businesses today need reliable, superfast broadband, which is not always available in their area, so getting a dedicated leased line for the premises can be the best solution. hSo provides managed networks designed for business - to get an instant cost for a leased line at your location, visit our online leased line price checker.
