A business in Cornwall is one of the first to enjoy all the benefits of superfast broadband and is now considering upping its use of cloud computing after achieving speeds of 330Mbps.

Component manufacturer, Arcol Resistors, based in Threemilestone in Cornwall, was previously struggling with speeds of between 1.5Mbps and 9Mbps. However, it was recently handed a fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) line and has been enjoying the benefits ever since.

Having faster internet connections has allowed the company to encourage a large number of its staff to work from home. It is also planning to allow staff to sell products online directly to customers at trade shows. “Anything to do with the cloud I would have previously considered a joke,” stated Alum Morgan, the company’s co-founder.

More and more companies in Cornwall will be able to enjoy the benefits of superfast broadband in the future, as advanced ADSL and satellite broadband systems are used to extend the service to the last ten per cent of homes and businesses that are still experiencing slow connections. Over time, the whole region will be given access to FTTC or FTTP connections through the Superfast Cornwall scheme. It is also planning to look into the use of 'broadband regenerators' that will increase the speed of ADSL lines that already exist.

After 2015, all customers in Cornwall who do not have access to fibre connections will be offered FTTP On Demand.

Anyone who does not have access to FTTP or FTTC but wants to enjoy the same benefits can opt for leased line connectivity.
