Major Australian telecom firm to benefit from SAP cloud
Australia’s top Managed Hosting and business-only telecommunications company, Macquarie Telecom, has acquired SAP cloud services certification for its data centres.
Highlighting the importance of the cloud to major organisations, particularly those involved in communications, Macquarie Telecom’s move makes it the second company in the country to receive the certification. 'Macquarie Telecom is one of only three providers in Australia that is SAP-certified in hosting services; and one of only two providers SAP-certified in cloud services,' IT Wire reported the firm saying in a statement.
The Macquarie Telecom data centre achieved the cloud certification following assessment by SAP for infrastructure-as-a-service. The new cloud technology will enable the data centres to sustain a vast array of services, including virtual servers and dedicated hosting environments.
The data centres - including the new £38 million Intellicentre 2 (IC2) site which is due to open later on this month in Macquarie Park, NSW - stands to will benefit hugely from the cloud, according to Aidan Tudehope, Macquarie Telecom’s managing director.
“Being SAP-certified in hosting and in cloud services further extends our capabilities in serving the needs of business and government in the secure, sustainable and redundant environments of both IC1 and 2,” Mr Tudehope told Computer World.
Macquarie Telecom is ‘now exploring further opportunities’ to partner with SAP in the software-as-a-service and mobility applications arenas, according to the publication. "Being an SAP hosting partner will allow Macquarie Telecom and SAP to leverage our respective strengths to deliver more intuitive and comprehensive solutions to our consolidated client base," Mr Tudehope added.
The other firm in Australia to have achieved SAP certification in cloud services is Telstra, the mobile phone, home phone and broadband internet provider.
