CMG invests in leased line in cloud move

Career Moves Group (CMG), one of London’s top recruitment agencies, has moved its entire IT infrastructure to the cloud, it has announced.

The Carnaby Street firm hopes that the initiative will reduce overall IT costs, improve business continuity and provide a flexible platform that is able to grow with the company. The company estimates it will save up to 10 per cent on IT costs over the next three years.

CMG has invested in a full enterprise cloud service, which includes application and virtualised server hosting, storage, online back-up and disaster recovery, email anti virus and spam protection, and 24/7 monitoring and support. To facilitate the shift to the cloud, the company has bought a 100 MB leased line to connect its offices to a secure data centre.

Steve Mason, Career Moves Group’s IT manager, explained, “Failover is now much better and measured in just a couple of hours plus moving to the cloud makes our business more agile. Opening a new office is easy and requires very little investment - all IT systems are now off-site, so all that is needed is an internet connection and staff are up and running.”

He added, “In terms of transitioning to the cloud, it was a relatively simple process and our staff didn’t really know what was happening. On-site and cloud systems were run in parallel and, on switchover day, all that users had to do was login slightly differently.”

CMG is a specialist recruitment business with a focus on publishing, PR and broadcast media. It has sourced staff for high-profile clients such as Channel 4, EMI, MTV, Penguin Group, Publicis, Sky, The Independent, Random House and Sage.

Businesses looking to move services into the cloud, should evaluate the performance of their existing network and consider setting up a leased line or MPLS network.
