An expert in hospitality IT has stated that Cloud Computing will continue to play an integral part in the industry.

Speaking to BigHospitality in advance of the Hospitality Technology EXPO, Claudia Harris, the event’s manager, said: “Cloud Technology has revolutionised every aspect within the hotel industry, from hosting the property management system to all sorts of other software solutions.

“It’s biggest benefit is it takes all the hardware out of a hotel, which makes such a big difference.”

Cloud computing solutions tend to mean less maintenance costs and equipment is needed in-house. Software services are paid for on a pay-as-you-go basis, which means that this can be ramped up or down depending on how busy the market is at different times of year. This makes for a much more efficient way of working for hotels.

This is particularly relevant in terms of the increasing demand among guests for smartphone services. Ms Harris explains that guests now often want to access services through their phones rather than contacting the concierge directly and that hotels need to keep with these new demands.

Ms Harris says that the event will hopefully showcase IT specifically designed for the hospitality industry. She said: "A number of IT directors were going to generic events and saying that there was no real offering for hospitality technology."

The event will be the first of its kind and will take place at Earl’s Court in February.

Businesses looking to move services into the cloud, should evaluate the performance of their existing network and consider setting up a leased line or MPLS network.
