The government claims that the roll-out of 4G internet half way through next year will have a positive impact on businesses in the UK.

The agreement to launch 4G internet has finally been made after a long series of discussions between the government and mobile firms. As a result, the access to 4G could come up to six months earlier than many businesses would have expected.

"The open and collaborative approach taken between the government and the mobile companies will have hugely beneficial results for UK business and investment,” stated Maria Miller, the UK Culture secretary.

She added, “Delivering 4G quickly is a key part of our economic growth strategy. I am grateful to the mobile operators for their co-operation in bringing forward vital 4G services.”

4G services are likely to provide a strong infrastructure for businesses and will help more companies adopt cloud computing and other online services, like VoIP, video conferencing and remote desktops etc.

Internet telephony provider Telappliant, claims that VoIP will become “the rule” among businesses once 4G is widely available. At the moment, any businesses hoping to use VoIP needs a fast and reliable connectivity and some are opting for leased line solutions.

Companies that are keen to adopt cloud computing are also turning to leased lines to make sure their connection isn’t compromised at busy times of the day.

Businesses looking to move services into the cloud, should evaluate the performance of their existing network and consider setting up a leased line or MPLS network.
