E-commerce agency uses AWS to convert more visitors into buyers

Swedish e-commerce agency Panagora hosts and manages online stores for Swedish online retailers such as Caliroots, Sneakersnstuff, Yme Universe and Naked CPH.

These clients, among the fastest-growing online retailers in Sweden, also rely on Panagora to design and build websites for their stores and give their customers the best possible experience when shopping online. As well as this, the agency is expected to ensure that the websites they host can handle any surges in traffic and that they don’t experience disruptions or downtime which would result in lost sales and a damaged reputation - something that was commonplace in the past.

Moon-Suck Song, CEO and co-founder of Panagora said: “It was a big headache. Crashes were commonplace around product releases, so it was hard for us to serve our customers effectively, let alone scale to take more customers on.”

To provide the best possible experience to online retailers and shoppers, Panagora chose to use Amazon Web Services (AWS) to host its client’s stores. Song wanted a mature cloud service and appreciated the fact that AWS supports Microsoft technologies, including .NET, which is used to develop applications, and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) with Windows Server and Elastic Load Balancing, which is used to distribute traffic.

“We saw the business value in an improved infrastructure. If we could boost the performance of sites and give customers faster-loading pages, shoppers would have a better experience, and ultimately stores could convert more visitors into customers.”

“AWS has given us improved availability and performance. This means our customers’ online stores don’t go down during big events, which means shoppers get a much better experience and in turn spend more. The result is increased profitability for the retailer.”

Panagora also uses Amazon CloudWatch which Song says is “especially important” because it allows the team to see where its infrastructure is being stretched during peak times, and means that they are able to do something about it.

“Using AWS to power our e-commerce platform helps us convert more visitors into buyers—by 30 per cent in one case. If we can replicate this for all our customers, the impact on their business would be incredible. We have tools to analyse the performance of any retail website, and I know we can achieve better metrics than many big-name competitors,” Song said.
